About Us

How We Got Started

Immigrant Rights Action came together in March of 2017 in direct response to an ICE raid in Doylestown that detained 4 residents. Our volunteer-led, bilingual organizing built an effective community network to report ICE enforcement operations and provide immediate support to individuals at risk of deportation.  Our services have since grown to encompass a wide range of consultations by telephone and in-person in our office.  In 2020 we received U.S. Department of Justice recognition as the only non-profit legal immigration services provider in Bucks County.

Our Work

All immigrants in Bucks County, regardless of immigration status or country of origin, are welcome to contact us.  Our staff are bilingual in English and Spanish and the majority of the individuals and families we work with are from Central America, whether recently-arrived asylum-seekers or long-term undocumented residents.

  • We are the only non-profit legal immigration services provider in Bucks County, and can provide low-cost representation in certain affirmative applications for legal immigration status.
  • We provide free legal immigration clinics, providing community members the opportunity to be evaluated for possible immigration solutions or ask questions about their status.
  • We can offer a modest amount of financial assistance with immigration cases.
  • We provide attorney referrals for recently-arrived asylum seekers and assist them in registering children for school and securing medical care.
  • We provide transportation and accompaniment to lawyer visits, immigration court hearings, and ICE supervision appointments.
  • When an individual is detained by ICE we provide families & employers with referrals to trustworthy immigration attorneys experienced in deportation defense.
  • We offer Know Your Rights trainings and presentations at local businesses, churches, community centers and ESL classes.
  • Our advocacy work has taken us from borough government to the regional police commission to the district court administration, and many face-to-face meetings with state representatives and senators.
  • We host a biannual Roundtable for agencies, programs, churches and community groups serving immigrants in Bucks County and neighboring communities, which has been attended by representatives of more than 75 organizations.
